Kirby Risk is committed to building a more sustainable future for our employees, customers and the communities we serve.
This commitment guides the development and implementation of green initiatives across the company with a common goal to reduce energy costs and waste for the benefit of our environment.
HOW DO WE SAVE ENERGY AND REDUCE EMISSIONS?
We reduce energy costs throughout our branch and warehouse locations through the installation and implementation of energy saving products and processes.
- Energy-efficient fixtures are installed with occupancy sensorsin warehouse areas, offices, conference rooms and restrooms.
- LED lighting is installed across all locations for reduced energy usage.
- Programmable thermostats are installed to heat and cool work areas more efficiently.
- HVAC audits are performed regularly to ensure units are performing at optimal levels, and equipment or parts are replaced as needed.
- Windows, doors and insulation inspections are performed, and structures or parts are replaced when needed.
- Transportation routes are evaluated/adjusted to reduce mileage and gasoline consumption.
HOW DO WE REDUCE WASTE?
We reduce waste every day by reusing or recycling scrap metals, product packaging and shipping materials.
- Customer deliveries are made using reusable packaging when possible.
- Empty wire reels/spools are saved and returned to manufacturers or reused for new orders.
- Scrap metal is recycled every year.
- Wood pallets used for shipping and storage are reused and/or repaired for as long as possible before scraps are returned for recycling.
HOW DO WE CONTINUE TO REDUCE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT?
Innovative technologies are helping us offset our energy consumption. Battery-powered cars and renewable energy sources such as solar energy can reduce emissions and support a more sustainable future.
- We are currently evaluating buildings for installation of solarpanels at select locations.
- An electric vehicle charging station has been installed at our Indianapolis location for recharging plug-in electric vehicle batteries.
