From Volume 2 Issue 4 of Connected.
According to OSHA.gov, establishing a safety and health program in the workplace is one of the most effective ways to protect a company’s most valuable asset — their employees. Losing employees to injury or illness, even for a short time, can cause significant disruption and cost to a company, its people and their families. It can also damage workplace morale, productivity, turnover and reputation.
WE MAKE SAFETY HAPPEN!
At Kirby Risk, we are committed to MAKE SAFETY HAPPEN! Safety is one of our key Values and Principles that helps us define positive and actionable behaviors in the workplace.
SAFETY – We will maintain safe and healthy working environments.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO MAKE SAFETY HAPPEN?
Making safety happen means that we care about the well-being of our co-workers and remain alert of our surroundings. We take responsibility for our work areas, and we speak up or offer solutions when we see opportunities for improvement. Ultimately, it means we want everyone to return home safely.
Nathan Franklin, member of the Kirby Risk Service Center maintenance department and safety team, shared the following tips for everyday safety. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility. You need to do the safe thing when no one is watching.”
HOW DO WE DO MAKE SAFETY HAPPEN?
Training is an important part of how Kirby Risk keeps our employees and environments safe. Regular safety training and awareness programs help us keep our employees informed. In alignment with OSHA recommended practices, we focus on the following key areas.
- Accident prevention: How to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Incident reporting: Understanding what needs to be reported and how to report it.
- Powered vehicle and pedestrian safety: Guidelines for operator and pedestrian safety.
- Slips, trips and falls: What causes them and how to prevent them.
Staying safe at Kirby Risk extends beyond our employees. Maintaining safe work environments also helps us show our customers that we value their safety protocols too.
When our team members go onsite to a manufacturing facility or construction site, they understand the importance of safety and the need to follow necessary procedures. Together, we share the responsibility of creating and maintaining safe work environments for the health and well-being of our employees and our customers!
